Modular Home Companies

There are a large number of modular home companies for those discerning home owners who want to only purchase the best in modular technology.  Of course, with such a sheer volume of available companies also come the questions on how to choose a company for your own, personal building needs.  After all, simply opening the telephone books is not a methodology that usually works.  Many consumers listen to the input of friends and family when interviewing potential modular home companies to build their dream homes, while others will pick a few companies that are geographically close to them and then running their information through the Better Business Bureau. No matter how highly recommended a company is by your close friends, the latter is always a good idea to ensure that between the positive experience your friends had to the time that you are in the market for their services a lot has not changed in the way the company does business.

Selecting modular home companies which are close by is also a good idea.  While it is true that you will be saving a lot of money on the construction of your home simply by having it manufactured in the controlled environment of the factory, many a homeowner does not realize that these savings can be eaten up substantially by giving the nod to a company that may be located out of state or clear across the state.  The reason are the high transportation costs of the finished modules that quickly negate any savings you realized by choosing this kind of home to begin with.  By working with someone who is local to you, you are cutting down on the transportation need and thereby also the cost associated with it.

Of course, modular home companies are not created equal, and in addition to finding one that has a good ranking with the Better Business Bureau and is close to your home town, you will also further narrow down the field by finding one which actually carries the kinds of floor plans and design options you favor. Add to this the necessity to shop around for the best price, and the whole process may appear to be akin to running in a maze, but you may be rest assured that with a bit of organization you will be able to narrow down the cost of your home to such an extend that you will be truly comparing apples to apples. For example, get the bottom line price per square foot from the modular home companies you are considering for the project.  Then get a list of extra charges.  Compare this list to the list provided by other companies.  What is an extra – costing additional funds – to one company is a standard feature for another one! In addition to the foregoing, make sure that the specifications to which the homes are built are similar.  While still within code, some manufacturers will built toward the low threshold, while others will soar above and beyond the bare minimum requirements - so take your time choosing a builder!
